What nurses will do, and what they won’t

I do not mean to generalise but it is a poor show when a student nurse refuses to give a sick patient a bedbath “because I have already learnt how to do it and don’t need to do another for my book”.

It is also a concern when you find that the only nurses who can do manual evacuations are the very senior ones, as the procedure isn’t taught any more.

However some nurses go the extra mile and are wonderful. At least I think so, but that’s probably because they have the same old-fashioned values that I have and treat nursing as a vocation and not as a rather grubby job.
