Not up to the Mark(s)

We try not to stop at motorway service areas as the food courts are so depressing, but this week we returned from the West Country, missing Fleet and calling instead at Cobham. I do so wish that those responsible for franchising food courts would visit Sydney (Australia of course) where the standards are exceptional and the food delicious, healthy and indeed a substitute for home cooking. But anyway – it was to M&S that we repaired for a sandwich (reasonable).

On the way out I spied the booze section and had a meander to compare with our own supermarket offerings (Waitrose, Tesco, Majestic). Then I spied a notice. It said “Alcohol purchased in M&S cannot be consumed anywhere inside or outside these premises”.

I’m sorry? Then where CAN you consume it?

Oxymoron. A figure of speech that juxtaposes elements that appear to be contradictory. There’s lots of those in the world, and the NHS in particular…
